The first roses were brought to Bulgaria by the soldiers of Alexander the Great. Immediately, they found that the climatic conditions in Bulgaria are far more favourable for the cultivation of roses than in Kashan (Persia). The roses grown in Bulgaria had higher percentage of oil and less stearoptene. Therefore, the quality is more superior than those grown in Kashan.

The remarkable climatic and unpolluted geographic conditions in Bulgaria accelerate the cultivation of the Bulgarian Rosa Damascena and its essential oil. The Bulgarian Rosa Damascena is cultivated for over 300 years and it provides nearly 85% of the rose oil in the world and it is considered to be the best rose oil in the world.
